by the prices on S2000 CRs.

Kinja'd!!!

Was looking at them out of curiosity after a conversation with a co-worker, and found the prices to be quite a bit more reasonable than I expected. Mid to high $20k with low mileage (30-50k). With only 699 ever produced, I figured a lot would be priced north of $30k. I'm starting to think I should have gotten one of these instead of the FR-S. Oh well, perhaps an S2000 CR will have to be my next sports car.

You can always get a 90's NSX for 25K.

That might actually be a good investment considering the numbers.

I thought the same thing, but I was wrong. 5 years ago? Yeah. Now? Nope. Even high mileage NA1s are $30k+. You can find some below $30k, but they're likely going to be riced out, automatic, salvage title, or a combination of those three.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. All the ones I saw for sale were in amazing condition, but they don't seem to be getting the collector tax that many low-production number cars have been getting. NSXs have been skyrocketing lately, but surprisingly the S2000s (even CRs) don't seem to have been affected. If an S2000 successor is ever launched, you can be guaranteed they will see the same spike in value though.

Problem is that you can get a low-mileage standard S2000 for like $16k, so you pay a big premium for the CR.

Right, but considering a nice hardtop would run you $3-4k alone; you're effectively paying $5-6k for the other upgrades and rarity. That's honestly not too bad.

My friend has had a CR for years, he has another $15k probably put into it, barely street legal, fast as hell.

LOVE the CR... If I didn't live in cold, salty michigan, and I wasn't 6'2", this would be my first choice.

Only if its an AP1, you can get a AP2 for that price but it won't be very low mileage.

Nice.

If I got one, it would have to be a 2nd weekend/summer car that I would track occasionally. I'd want to make sure it stays in good shape, because I'm certain they will become a collectors' car down the road and increase in value.

Yeah, living in Illinois is what kept me from getting an S2K (the soft top was the main deterrent), and I didn't even consider the CR because I figured they were out of my price range. In hindsight I think it might have been a better choice than the FR-S.

Unfortunately, you're probably right... There's a lot of reasons I don't want a BRZ/FR-S, but the MSRP is my biggest complaint. I can buy an '03 Z06 in MINT condition with 18K miles for 27K-30K, or a really nice S2000 CR, so why would I spend 32K on something that can be outrun by a Camry? Though, you're still driving one of the best enthusiast cars on the market, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. ;)

I also didn't pay $32k for mine. lol I got one used with 4,100 miles for $23.5k OTD. I probably could have gotten a better deal if I'd been more of a dick, but I think it was a fair price for both parties.

Well hey, that's not bad at all! Was it fully optioned, though?

Nah. Only option worth a damn on the FR-S was the Bespoke head unit, which I don't really care for anyways. So I'm fine with it the way it is.

Ah, yes... Well, keep that tach vertical, and the options list becomes less and less relevant. haha
